Valley, Amsterdam

HEYLIGERS Architects was asked by the owner, RJB Netherlands, to think and design with it to finish the interior of this ambitious project to a similar high standard as the exterior. The Valley building, designed by MVRDV, is already legendary and an icon for Amsterdam. HEYLIGERS Architects is responsible for the design of the complex floor plans of all residences through to swimming pool, fitness, special lighting, finishes and materialisation of many common areas.
HEYLIGERS Architects’ most eye-catching contribution is the organically designed lighting fixtures above the escalators that give access to the ‘grotto’; the public-accessible central hall on the first floor.

Due to the building’s erratic facades, almost all 200 flats are different and it was a challenge to optimise the layout of the luxury rental flats, with almost all bedrooms having their own bathroom and a (walk-in) wardrobe. In addition, a complete Siematic kitchen, built-in fixtures and an elegant steel pivot door have been incorporated. Tasteful lobbies were designed for the general residential entrances. Logistics for receiving mail and parcel delivery are integrated into the marble, brass and dark wooden slatted rooms.

The resident-accessible spa, with swimming pool, sauna, fitness and changing rooms is materialised similarly to the general residential entrances with the addition of a unique ceramic onix panel.
