Reimersbeek Amsterdam<\/h2>\n

\nOn the southern edge of Amsterdam, the garden city Buitenveldert was realised in the 1960s. Along the Van Boshuizenstraat, which crosses Buitenveldert from west to east, four office buildings stand between the terraced houses and porch flats. One of these office buildings is a 3-layer ‘patio office’ built in the 1970s. After 40 years of service, it has undergone a thorough ‘facelift’. The dark and closed office features a new fa\u00e7ade with twice as much glass. The western building section on the park side has been raised by 60 cm, giving it a free height of 3 metres. The closed end walls have been perforated with large square windows and the original entrance has been restored and fitted with transparent turnstiles. In addition, the outdated gas-fired climate control system was replaced by a sustainable (and gas-free) air treatment system powered by heat pumps.<\/p>\n

The parking patio between the two building sections was originally completely petrified. In the new situation, large planters have been inserted and the fence is overgrown with climbing plants. A green roof terrace is situated on the roof of the ‘intermediate building’.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

To break open the introverted building, the flat dark brown fa\u00e7ade with small windows was replaced by a new bronze-coloured aluminium curtain wall with floor-to-ceiling glass. Referring to the original design, the vertical window frame styles have been made emphatically legible, giving the fa\u00e7ade a much more plastic appearance. This increased the contrast between the end and longitudinal fa\u00e7ades, emphasising the structure of the building. Because the northern end fa\u00e7ade borders on Van Boshuizenstraat and the southern end fa\u00e7ade offers a view of a green park, large square windows were made in the concrete prefabricated fa\u00e7ade sections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

By incorporating the generous glass turnstile, a new glass lift and a new central staircase executed in 7mm thick black steel plate, the main entrance is more orderly, transparent and inviting. New ceilings, new lighting and the doubling of the glass surface make office floors much more spacious. The toilets were made directly accessible from the central hall and transformed into stylish washrooms using concrete-look tiles, profiled solid wood panels, black oak veneer doors and stainless steel sensor taps.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
