Transformation Stadsring Amersfoort<\/h2>\n

\nJust outside the historic city center of Amersfoort, on the former bleaching field, this anonymous and closed office building was built in the late 1980s. After thirty years of service as efficient office space, it is being transformed into a sustainable residential & office building. The location, close to the lively center of Amersfoort is ideal to realize smaller & comfortable apartments.<\/p>\n

The starting point is to make the entire complex more accessible and friendly: more transparent glass, where possible larger facade openings, balconies, fewer parking spaces on the ‘old’ parking deck and greening of the grounds. In addition, the current fa\u00e7ade no longer meets contemporary architectural and building physics requirements: the gray-white cladding and sand-lime bricks will be replaced by bronze-gold aluminum profile sheets and gray-brown fiber cement sheets with a warm and less flat appearance. New high-quality aluminum window frames will be fitted with HR++ glass, and combined with new insulation, the renovated building envelope will meet today’s tough thermal requirements. In addition, the homes will be equipped with heat pumps and disconnected from gas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

The concrete building has a fairly clear structure: a load-bearing concrete prefab facade and a row of columns just off the central corridor. The disadvantage of the load-bearing facade is that it is complicated to make large holes. This limits the realization of balconies. The existing semi-underground parking garage is ideal to also realize storage rooms and a bicycle storage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Because the building is in such a prominent location, on the corner of Blekerssingel\/Stadsring, the municipality of Amersfoort has given the opportunity to add additional volume so that more housing can be realized. Obviously, the transition to the existing row houses should remain lower. A solar study shows that the added volumes have no effect on the residential area behind. The building and location offer the opportunity to create a stepped volume that looks very natural in the context. The stepped roofscape is filled in with generous outdoor spaces and sedum roofs. The first floor of the building will remain offices, on top of which 64 apartments will be realized with a GO varying from +\/- 40m2 to 70m2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The proposal is to partially green the parking deck behind it, which currently forms an unfriendly transition to the quiet residential area, and add an elegant pergola.
